Acceptance and Age Requirements

By using CheckIn, you agree to these terms. You must be at least 13 years old to use this app. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and approved your use of this app.

What CheckIn Does and Doesn't Do

CheckIn provides

• Personal mental health tracking
• Risk pattern detection
• Automated alerts to your trusted contacts
• Crisis resource information
• Data insights and analytics (Pro features)

CheckIn does NOT provide

• Medical diagnosis or treatment
• Professional counseling or therapy
• Emergency intervention services
• Guaranteed crisis prevention

Crisis Detection and Response

Risk Engine

CheckIn analyzes your check-in patterns to detect potential crisis situations, including:

• Prolonged negative mood patterns
• Use of high-risk keywords or phrases
• Extended periods without check-ins
• Responses indicating thoughts of self-harm

LifeSaver Alerts

If our risk engine detects a high-risk situation and you have enabled LifeSaver alerts:

• We will send a pre-written SMS to your designated trusted contact(s)
• Messages are generic and do not include your personal data or journal entries
• You confirm your trusted contacts have consented to receive these alerts
• These alerts are supplementary — they do not replace professional emergency services

SMS Consent and Messaging Disclosure

By adding a LifeSaver contact, you confirm that person has given you prior express consent to receive SMS safety alerts from CheckIn on your behalf. Alerts are sent only when our risk engine detects a crisis or extended absence. Message frequency varies based on user activity and is typically infrequent. Message and data rates may apply. Recipients may reply STOP to opt out at any time.

Emergency Response Protocol

In cases of imminent danger or explicit threats of self-harm, CheckIn may:

• Provide immediate crisis resources and hotline numbers
• Encourage you to contact emergency services

We do not actively monitor the app 24/7 and cannot guarantee immediate response.

Data Privacy and Storage

Local Storage

Journal entries and personal notes are stored locally on your device. This data is deleted if you uninstall the app unless you back it up.

Connected User Profile Data

We collect and link data to your anonymous user profile to enable crisis prevention features:

• Check-in responses and patterns
• Demographic information
• LifeSaver contact information
• Risk indicators and trends
• Organization codes (if applicable)

This data is connected to provide personalized crisis detection, safety alerts, and Pro features. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except:

• To send LifeSaver SMS alerts (processed through secure messaging services)
• When required by law or to prevent imminent harm
• With your explicit consent

Subscription Features and Billing

Free Features

All core safety features remain free, including:

• Daily check-ins and basic tracking
• LifeSaver emergency alerts
• Crisis resource access
• Basic mood monitoring

Pro Features

Enhanced features require a subscription:

• Detailed mood trends and analytics
• Advanced pattern detection and insights
• Data export capabilities
• Historical tracking and reporting
• Enhanced notification settings
• Crisis resource library access

Auto-Renewable Subscriptions

CheckIn offers the following auto-renewable subscription options:

• CheckIn Pro Monthly: $6.99 per month, renews automatically every month
• CheckIn Pro Annual: $59.99 per year (equivalent to $4.99/month), renews automatically every year

Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renewal in your Apple ID Account Settings after purchase.

Billing

• Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled
• You may cancel at any time through your device's subscription settings
• Refunds are handled according to your platform's policies (App Store / Google Play)

Minors and Parental Rights

If you are under 18:

• A parent / guardian must approve your use of this app
• Parents / guardians may request access to or deletion of minor's data
• We recommend involving parents / guardians in your mental health support plan

Professional Medical Disclaimer

CheckIn is developed with input from mental health professionals but:

• Is not supervised by licensed clinicians
• Cannot diagnose mental health conditions
• Should not replace professional treatment
• May have limitations in crisis detection

Always consult qualified healthcare providers for mental health concerns.

Mandatory Reporting and Legal Obligations

In accordance with applicable laws, we may be required to report:

• Suspected child abuse or neglect
• Threats of harm to others
• Court-ordered disclosures

We will make reasonable efforts to notify you unless prohibited by law.

Limitations and Liability

CheckIn is provided "as-is" without warranties. We are not liable for:

• Missed crisis alerts or technical failures
• Decisions made based on app recommendations
• Harm resulting from delayed or failed notifications
• Third-party service interruptions

Your safety is your responsibility. This app is a tool, not a guarantee.

International Users

If you use CheckIn outside the United States:

• Different privacy laws may apply
• Emergency services and crisis resources may differ
• Some features may not be available

Changes to Terms

We may update these terms. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. For material changes affecting crisis features, we will provide prominent notice.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate access if:

• Terms are violated
• App is misused in ways that could harm others
• Legal requirements demand it
